10 Lessons to Learn Before Starting a Successful Travel Company Business.
14 years back I took the plunge to start my career in the Tourism Industry because I love travelling and I wanted to make a career out of something I love. I have learned a lot over the years, especially about the things to consider while planning to start what you love in the travel industry.
I would like to share these here, let me know in the comments
what you think.
1. Don’t spend money on degrees or
masters in tourism. Instead - travel, explore places you wish to promote.
2. Network with locals while travelling.
This will help you with every small information about the places you wish to
promote.
Networking
is the best tool for any business.
3. Create an extensive network of suppliers
i.e. hotels, homestays, transporters, guides or activity suppliers.
4. Find a reliable individual or company
to promote your business online. Don’t compromise with the quality.
5. Learn soft skills, as you are going
to deal with different people from different places and you have to be very
polite, creative, diplomatic and smart.
6. Learn at-least basics in finance.
7. Create a survey on the services you
are planning to offer. Check which destinations are preferred by the customers
where you are planning to target. e.g. where do people like to travel from
Bangalore. There will always be a few common destinations among most of the
customers. Be masters of information on those destinations.
8. Plan for one year of emergency
finances for personal and business both.
9. Create online presence by starting a
blog or article weekly on your services, destinations and activities.
10. Sell only what you know and understand.
So, there it is my list of 10 things to consider. I would love to hear what you think. Let’s share and learn. 😊 - Ashish Gupta
